My current "Design Series" of paintings are a result of my exploration to find a consistent
"look" that says "jolene". By combining elements and subjects that, upon close observation of
my past work, have intuitively repeated themselves I was presented with a challenge.
The challenge was to choose one subject, one element, one medium and
to paint it 24 different ways. My subject was a pear (one of my favorite things to paint),
my element was a circle & swirls, my medium was acrylic on paper.
My goal was to let go and be as expressive as I could be. I used my left hand,
I painted with a paper towel, I put acrylic paint in Elmer's glue bottles so I could create new strokes. I can honestly say I have never had so much fun painting. I continued with three other subjects - a posy shape, leaves, and cups. The result is a body of work that reveals my creativity, joy in painting and a "look" that says "jolene".

I like how I feel when I create art. Choosing a brush, holding it in my hand, dipping into paint,
making strokes on varied surfaces exhilarates me. Where should I go next? What color?
Each decision is a part of a finished piece that expresses what I can’t put into words.

My art is inspired by nature—flowers, fruits, leaves, trees, and landscapes.
Though I take a direct approach, I don’t fill in all the details.
My compositions are intuitive with abundant color.
The viewer’s imagination and the artist’s concept is a dialogue that art can provide.

For the last nineteen years, graphic design has been my profession.
This has influenced my art with strong design and the use of patterns.
Curves, swirls, and fullness emerge in my work.
Close attention to texture produces unique results.
